GENERALATE
The Generalate of the congregation is situated in Guwahati Assam. It is the administrative center of the Congregation and a place where seminars, courses and retreats are held for the Sisters at the Congregational level. It also functions as the Juniorate House of the Congregation, where a year-long course is held every year for every batch of junior Sisters after two years of their first profession. The MSMHC Congregation had taken shape at Guwahati in 1942 and had no centre of its own till 1987. The Congregation had St. Mary’s Convent of the Salesian Sisters in Guwahati as its place of formation till March 1948. For some years St. Margaret’s Convent, Shillong served as the Central Home of the Congregation. The provinces were erected in the year 1988 and Provincial House of the province of Shillong became St.Margaret’s Convent. To facilitate the smooth running of the Provincial House, the Generalate had to be shifted to another location. The Fourth General Chapter took the decision to build the new Generalate House at Hatigaon, Guwahati. It was Archbishop Hubert D’ Rosario SDB of Shillong who donated a plot of land at Hatigaon. The foundation stone of the House was laid in 1988. It took five years to complete the construction. The house was blessed and inaugurated by Archbishop Thomas Menamparampil of Guwahati on 23 January 1993.
