FERRANDO INSTITUTE OF SPIRITUALITY CENTER
|
In answer to the crucial need of preserving our original spirit, charism and traditions and to equip ourselves better for a more effective mission we have started this institute of MSMHC Spirituality with a programme of studies meant mainly to prepare formators, missionaries, educators, leaders of local commuities, leaders at the provincial and congregational levels and to provide opportunities for the on-going formation of the sisters. Our centre of studies will be known, after our founder as FERRANDO INSTITUTE OF SPIRITUALITY (MSMHC Centre for Missionary Foramation and Leadership)and dedicated to Mary Help of Christians, the principal patroness of our congregation. A comprehensive two-year programme of study has been drawn up for the institute, and it will confer a Master's degree in MSMHC spirituality. As per the programme the centre will offer specialised studies on the founder, charism, spirit, mission, history, traditions and spiritituality of the congregation. It also offers courses in Theology of religious life, History of spirituality, Salesian spirituality, Evangelisation, Catechesis, Catholic Education, Social apostolate, Women's studies, Social communication for evangelisation etc.
The Centre was inaugurated on 20th June 2009 by Rt. Rev. Domnic Jala, the archbishop of Shillong in the presence of Superior General Sr. Mary Thadavanal and many distinguished dignitaries. Sr. Philomena Mathew was appointed as the directress and Sr. Mercy Philip as the vice directress. They will work in close collaboration with the Superior General and her Council and adhere to their directives and guidance in all important matters pertaining to the institute.
This centre for the specialised studies will eventually become the ‘think tank’ of the Congregation as it can regularly undertake strategic studies on all aspects of the life in the Congregation. Therefore it aims at preparing a core group of intellectuals who constantly study, research and critically reflect on the Congregation’s charism, spirit, mission, history, spirituality and policies.
